Intern in the Event Industry - As The World Reopens

By Katie Howell

In March 2020 Covid-19 hit the US. The world as we knew it shut down, and people quarantined. Events ended, and most weddings were postponed or cancelled altogether. This lasted for at least a year, and even though vaccinations were opening places back up again, Los Angeles was a little slower to get back in the game. So when I accepted my internship offer to work with Michele Gott at Center of Attention Events, I understood that I would not be attending many.

So imagine my surprise and joy when Los Angeles announced it was rejoining the world after it’s long hiatus. Events were coming back, wedding bells were ringing, and event planners were singing. During my time in Los Angeles this summer I have learned so much about the industry, and how to work events. While I learned about the back-office work (research, venue and vendor calls, general needs-to-be-done work) I also had the privilege to attend several client meetings, a venue walk-through, and two weddings.

However, like all good things, it must come to an end. After two busy filled months, it is time for me to finally bid Center of Attention Events goodbye. I owe Michelle Gott, Stella, and all of the amazing people I met during this incredible educational journey so much.

If you would like to help make people’s dreams and visions come true (whether it’s creating brand parties for influencers, doing launches for companies, weddings, or anything the imagination can envision) I would recommend exploring an internship with Michele, whether it’s for an entire semester or just the summer. You will learn everything about an event-from it’s beginning idea to its fruition.

As my internship ends, all I can say is it's been one wild ride...and I wouldn’t change it for the world.
